Dismantle Hub again

The hub was making so much noise (squeaking like it needed oil or grease) and seemed to be dragging that I decided onThursday morning to pull it apart again. I found one of the pawls had broken. I cleaned everything up and left out the broken pawl so there were now only three pawls engaging the ratchet gear. These are the main drive pawls from the cassette to the hub. I thought this might solve the squeaking but alas it did not. I found the cause of the dragging…SEE NEXT POST


Also on the Wednesday (15th) I noticed the hub gears were no longer changing and found that the puller that screws into the hub had sheared off at the start of the threaded section. The picture below shows the puller that goes into the hub but is supposed to have about 5mm of screw thread on the right end. So now the hub is always in the lowest gear.
